A Busy February

This February we were able to spread Moments of Joy to 100’s of pediatric hospital patients through a variety of ways.

At Texas Children’s Main Campus we donated over 170 boxed Valentine’s cards and decorations. The Child Life Department set up a “Valentine’s Day Store” and all the Oncology and Hematology inpatient children were able to pick out a box of themed valentines they liked. Then they were able to pick out stickers and decorate their own gift bags to hang on their door so other patients could drop their valentines in each other’s bags. On Valentine’s Day, all the patients were able to walk around the floor and drop one of their valentines into the other patient’s bags. Our goal was to recreate a “Valentine’s Day Party” similar to what these kids would have been doing at home or at school. It ended up being a HUGE success!

With the help of some of our Haley’s Helpers, we were able to pack 225 goody bags for patients that had to come into the hospital for appointments on Valentine’s Day. Each goody bag included a stress ball, a Valentine’s Day card, and stickers. We delivered these bags to Texas Children’s Main Campus, Woodlands Campus, and MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Center.

We didn’t forget about the nurses either! To show our love and appreciation for them we purchased Crumbl cookies for the staff on 7 West Tower, 9 West Tower, the Bone Marrow Transplant Floor and Clinic, as well as the Child Life and Nurse Coordinator teams in the Texas Children's Cancer Center.  We are so thankful for all they do for their patients day in and day out.

We didn’t forget about Mardi Gras! On the Oncology and Hematology floors at Texas Children’s Main Campus, we provided over 80 balloons and 100s of beads for their Mardi Gras Parade. Once again the Child Life Department put on another AMAZING event! They decorated carts as floats and went down all the floors handing out balloons and beads to the patients.

For our friends on the Bone Marrow Transplant floor who aren’t able to attend large gatherings like the parade, we had balloons and individual goody bags packed for them to celebrate Mardi Gras in their rooms with their family. We are so thankful for the AMAZING team at Texas Children’s we get to work with to make events like these possible!

But we couldn’t make these Moments of Joy happen without the support of our donors.  Their financial support allows us to buy supplies for events like these and provide them to 100s of children fighting cancer and other serious illnesses.  These moments allow patients and their families to forget about their medical journey for just a bit, have fun, celebrate and make positive memories.  Please consider how you can partner with us to support these patients, whether through a one-time donation, becoming a monthly donor, or buy purchasing a toy off our Amazon Wish List to give to these patients.
